Regret: Chanel Vitalumière | Beauty

We've all had this happen. We buy makeup which has gotten nothing but positive reviews and we have to try it. In the cases of drugstore mascara we can usually count our losses and move on. With an almost 50€ foundation not so much.

I usually use either Benefit Hello Flawless or Maybelline Dream Mouse foundations (middle and lower price range) so when I finally splurged I was expecting magic. Instead I got crazy greasy skin (a little too much glow, no?). I usually have combination skin with my t-zone being on the oily side, but this took my oily t-zone to a new level making me look like I had rubbed my face in, well, oil. Not flattering.

I think this product would be fine on older skin, but definitely not on skin which tends to get greasy because no matter how often I blot and powder, this sucker does not give up. Im thinking of mixing it with my maybelline foundation as it tends to stick to my dry areas. Do you have any good ideas what to do with this? Germany is terrible with their exchange policies!

Foundations I highly recommend are Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra (more coverage and smells great) and Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow (a pea size amount covers my whole face). Both are between 35 - 40 €, but worth the money, they last forever.

Obsession: Printed Pants

(Hole in my wall?! Oops...)

I have kissed my jeans adieu since the "single colored pants" spell was broken.  Although it has taken me a good while to embrace the trend- I am in love! From printed leggings, tights to chinos, anything goes.

These soft pants from Zara are my current favorites. Paired with black plateau sandals or oxfords and a simple top there is no stopping them. Although they are printed they exude a simplicity and maturity which is completely versatile- because being confined is so boring.

Conclusion Mood: Instantly brightened.

Topshop Berlin

Just a quick post because I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it...). Topshop will be opening in Berlin on September 4. in the KaDeWe on Tauentzienstrasse in Charlottenburg. On 150 square meters us Berliners will (finally!) be able to shop our little hearts out and keep up with our fashion fowards counterparts in London and New York.

Although I love the online store, the wait is in my opinion too long and there is just nothing like instant gratification. So everyone keep your credit cards locked and loaded and I will see you there!

xo's,

Kate

Can't find me? You bet that I'll be one of the squealing annoying girls everyone avoids... I own it!

Current Love: Bright Skirt, Bow Shoes

My recent obsession have been both these black bow shoes from Zara with sling back heels. They look perfect dressed up as well as dressed down. The small slit of skin between the bow and toe added with the open back give them a younger edge.

Also this COS yellow wool skirt brightens my mood. It is of very good quality and perfect in this windy weather because the wool makes it stay put (no Marilyn-esque moments). In winter it can be paired beautifully with browns, creams, greys and whites- adding sunshine to the dreariest day.

Skin Deep: Artemis Intense Night Serum

Due to my scientific background, I usually look at a product’s ingredients and then decide from there if the product is worth purchasing, in the series "Skin Deep" I will be reviewing different ingredients in skincare products and evaluating their safety both for your health and the environment.

I have been a huge fan of the Artemis skincare line for a while now and decided to see what makes their products so effective.

Ingredients: Hydrocalmin Compound®, Anti-Gravity Peptid, MineralPlus, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera, Sodium PCA, Allantoin, Panthenol

Panthenol: Mixed with Allantoin (also an ingredient), it is used against minor skin disorders, wounds or burns. I put this serum on my exema and it clears it right up- no wonder! Panthenol is an alcohol and is hence also disinfecting. I would; however, not put this serum on wounds or burns!

Hyaluronic Acid: This is found in many of your body’s own tissue. It is argued that your body can absorb ingredients which it produces itself more effectively as it will know how to process them.

Sodium PCA: Like the amino acid proline. It is used to moisturize your skin and is fine to use and is not toxic or harmful.

Allantoin: You can find this in many plants and also in urine! It is also completely safe and natural. Studies have shown this is helpful in clearing dermatitis as it is known to be a moisturizing miracle-worker.

Hydrocalmin: I have so far only seen this in Artemis products, I can’t find any more information on it!

Anti-Gravity Peptid: Surely not the scientific name, so I can’t say much about it. Peptids are short amino acids, again this should not harm your body.

Panthenol: Mixed with Allantoin, it is used against minor skin disorders, wounds or burns. I put this serum on my exema and it clears it right up- no wonder! Panthenol is an alcohol and is hence also disinfecting. I would; however, not put this serum on wounds or burns!
Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing and healing character, it adds to the serum’s soothing and disinfecting qualities.

Conclusion: Gently and not harmful to your health ort he environment (only based on the product, not the packaging.) While the price is hefty, I can recommend it as it has worked wonders on my skin. I wake up in the morning with hydrated, plumper skin and my pores are minimized. Thanks to the panthenol/allantoin mix this product is great for anyone with skin problems (acne, exema, dry patches, blackheads) as it is disinfecting as well.

If you have acne this will definitely help as many acne treatments are rather drying and this will really hydrate your skin overnight. Also, I am allergic to many foods and this clears up my exema better than any cream I got from the dermatologist (still see your derm before using this though!)

All in all a fantastic product and one of the only I would 100% recommend to anyone. What are your go to skin care products? I am happy to review ingredients.

Morgenland Berlin

In a small unsuspecting shop in Kreuzberg hides a real gem. Morgenland is filled with middle eastern style lamps, jewelery and fabrics. This necklace I purchased from there not too long ago and it has become a staple piece in my wardrobe- lovingly dubbed my "spoon" necklace.

I am very pleased to announce that they have opened another store in Steglitz just this year. Most of my lamps I purchased there and they give wonderful soft lighting which really sets a gentle and warm atmosphere in my little cave (ok, apartment. Sometimes jokingly referred to as the dungeon, as it is at souterrain level). Their fabrics are of high quality and comparable to Basetti for only a fraction of the cost.

My father who has extemely classic, timeless and expensive taste has also become an enthusiast of this little gem. Especially loving the orange lamps as they make any room warmer. As he is sick of "always walking into the same apartment" (commenting the fact that many people purchase exclusively from IKEA) these exotic and often whimsical pieces are highly welcome in his home as well.

I will add pictures of my bedding, lamps and mirror in due time.

Wishing you a lovely, relaxed day,

Kate
